  My GameMaker teacher told me not to fall into the temptation of making a simple RPG as my first game. Since I’m a good student, I decided to make a complex RPG instead.

  A huge factor in making games I don’t see people talking about is consistency. Your motivation throughout a project’s lifespan will rise and fall, and that’s completely normal. As long as you open your project and make progress consistently, you’ll reach a point where just working on the project IS the motivation.

  The best code tip I ever heard was on a video with 100 views. When you write a script, make sure the thing it is on works without the script. If you want to test movement and you cant create a fresh character and drop just the movement script on it, your scripts are not organized/written right.
