I love eating healthy foods and fasting and getting daily sunlight and exercising. Low cost.

I have A, B D & G. Yes, I know it isn't cheap. I also know what may cost will be for the year. No surprises. No hassles. No insurance induced stresses. I budget for it every year, then forget about it. Go where I want. When I want. My son and daughter in-law were short by how good my insurance plan was compared to their $10k deductible plan was from a major corporation. I don't have vision or dental but that is what an emergency fund is for.

Wife and I have had plan G supplements since day-1 and it’s saved us a ton of money. Stay away from advantage plans.

Also, my understanding is that when you have a supplement plan, your doctor determines when you need specialized care and with an advantage plan the insurance company determines when you’re approved for specialized care.

I never understood HMO, PPO etc. Thank you for explaining very well.

Here is the thing: at 65 you absolutely never know that is going to happen in 5 -10 years. I started  with A+B+D+Plan G and thankful I did. I got my supplement during the guarantee issue period at 65 with no underwriting. Then things happened that would mean never passing underwriting without moving to a  state that has none. I also take a medication that costs $17,000 a MONTH. With the new Part D rules I pay my $2,100 in January and have ZERO part D costs for the next 11 months. Because I have A+B+Plan G I go to the doctor of my choice and have no pre-approval issues. Unless you are dirt poor, never take a so-called  Advantage plan. You may think those zero dollar premiums make you look smart. But a few years down the road a major heath challenge can present itself and you will have to deal with restrictions and pre-approval regimes that make your life worse.

My husband’s quote for supplemental insurance is $600 per month from two different companies. I can’t see a future where I can retire. I’m trying to make peace with this situation.
