My husband and I both got our DOD regular military ID from the Luke AFB base Deers office in AZ. It is the DOD CARD and we brought our marriage certificate , his 100% P&T letter, DD214, our Drivers Licenses, passports, and birth Certificates. So be prepared to have these docs if you want a DOD card. It was a very pleasant experience but time consuming. Get the marriage certificate and birth certs well in advance from the County you were born in it takes some time.

I am 100% P&T. I have a VAHealth card and when I use it to go on base you had to stop at the visitor station every three years if I remember right but also ways had to sign wife on. But now I have the DOD card and they gave one to my wife. So she can go on base with out me.

You do not need a DOD card to get onto an installation to use the MWR facilities, the commissary, or the exchange. As long as your VA ID says that you’re service connected, regardless of your rating, you can access that installation and use those facilities. At least I have been able to. You have to go to the visitor center and register that takes all of 10 or 15 minutes unless there’s a long line. I’ve even been able to get my daughter and my granddaughter on so they can go shopping with me. I’ve been using my VA medical ID card with the designation service connected since they first launched the program. I’ve been able to get onto every installation that I have attempted to access using this card. The first was the naval station in Bahrain and then I’ve also been able to get into Albuquerque and a few other places. I’ve never had to get any kind of a sticker

Please understand that you WILL NOT be able to go to the base hospital or the base pharmacy. These two important benefits are the only reason my wife & I ever go to the base and these are the only two remaining benefits that have not been giving to 30% of all veterans. Many veterans are thankful for the base access privileges and feel it is about time they too get to get on the base. After a couple of visits, most new base vets rarely ever come back. But for years many veterans stood outside the gate yearning and angry they couldn’t get on the base. Nowadays, I rarely see a new base vet anymore, but when I did, it was funny because they were getting all giddy and acting stupid. The best ones were the disabled veterans trying to get into the base hospital. They would get very upset they couldn’t get their family seen at the base hospital.

The VA card have to be certified by security chief, don’t need a sticker, only need to go to security office and update your information for you to enter the base.

I’m retired military so I already have a Military Retiree ID Card. I wish they put 100% VA Disabled Veteran on that card, but they will not. WAIT! Of all the bases you chose it is the one I work! LEMOORE CA! Amazing!

You can use your VA health card to get on base as long as you register your VA card to the base you are trying to get in. Just have to stop at the visitor center as a walk in, they will ask for your drivers license, car registration and insurance card or show them your insurance phone app. I work at an Air Force base and in the past I have left my civilian CAC in my office. I previously had registered it also were I used to work at a Naval base as well. They just scan your VA card like they do with your active duty or civilian CAC
