Most veterans assume all 100% ratings are the same (I know I did) —until they get a re-exam letter in the mail. ✉ One of these 4 types is bulletproof while the others are not. Check your latest award letter: do you have the 'Permanent and Total' protection, or are you in one of the other three at-risk categories? Let’s talk about it in the comments. Let me know what kind of 100% you have and drop any questions. I respond to every comment!

After being out of the Navy after 25 years I needed therapy at the VA. The doctors told me to apply for comp and pen. I tried to get 10% rating so I could continue therapy. One year later I received my awards letter, I was awarded 100% P&T. It blew me away. I made it my job to go and help other Veterans receive care at the VA. I'm in Washington State. I found most Veterans did not ever apply, or even think they had access to care.

One thing I've seen that really angers me are community care doctors tell me how great it is I get free care I now tell them, we pay for our medical on the prepayment plan. They should have been there the night I paid for mine!

If say you are already 100% p&t and say you are diagnosed with sleep apnea you would want to add that to your service connected not for the rating but if you die from a sleep apnea connect illness your spouse continues to receive support from the VA.

I'm 71, and a Navy Veteran. After battling through the VA systems of hoops and hurdles, I finally received my 100% P&T rating. Since then, I have received my PACT Act claim. I now have a VA paid for Caregiver 38 hours a week, and they have also granted me an Aid & Attendance stiped for extra care beyond what my caregiver can do. I am currently filing for a replacement wheel car van, for the one I paid for myself. It has 400k plus miles on it and is slowly falling apart.

I was actually a VSO representative, and while it all sounds great, it has taken over 20 years, and the hiring of a Veteran's Attorney firm. Without them I would still be struggling. The last four years we have made great strides for my benefits, and health care.

My advice is to never be afraid to ask, poke and prod around. NEVER GIVE UP with the VA. If you served you deserve!

The term "Never give up" is what kept me going. I was rated at 70% for years. I can't tell you how many times I felt like giving up. I felt the VA was an endless battle. I can't tell you how many appeals I filed and how many denials I received. I finally filed for a higher level appeal on my PTSD. I can't tell you how the supervisor changed my life. The reviewer determined that the VA previously made two critical errors in my case. I was awarded 100% P&T for PTSD alone which is really hard to get. Never give up. 13:51 I’m 100% P&T and I work (I teach PreK in public school). Honestly, I think working helps my conditions. It might sound crazy, my mental health is actually better with a classroom full of 4 year olds than it was when I was sitting at home. It’s a blended general education/special education class and it’s a wild time but I guess it keeps me distracted and with motivation to help raise a bunch of economically disadvantaged kiddos

    I've collected 100% P&T since 1975 for a Mental disability.
For the first 40 years ( because I have no family) anyone who wanted to, begged, borrowed, and stole almost every dollar I got from the VA.
For the last few years (don't notify the VA) I've been thinking clear enough to protect my self from the world at large which has no mercy.
I'm living in an apartment in the Philippines. I ride a small motorcycle, and I have money in the bank , for the first time since 1975 .
Surely you know that at the VA like everywhere else, THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE.
If you're too incapacitated to SQUEAK , the VA is a heartless monster that doesn't want to know any personal issues and doesn't care if you live or die.

I thank God for his love and protection in these last 50 years.
I'm 74 , surely I won't live much longer and I can't leave this world soon enough.
I ask God , now , to have the mercy on all of you that our government will never have.
