I use the camera look around feature quite a lot when playing metroidvanias, I definitly think its a must.

I look up and down pretty much all the time in every single metroidvania I ever played, especially if I'm on low health, add the feature please

Nonononono, do not doubt to add the look up/down functions and animations! You can use them or not, but they add a lot of feeling of polish to the game!

19:52 I say: "It's better to have it even if the player doesn't want it than to not have it when they do"

14:40 the camera following enemies could be very cool with minibosses

If you are running with max HP and just wandering around, you may not look up or down, but if you are 1 HP, trying to get back to your cocoon or whatever, etc. you are much more cautious and want to measure every jump. Same if you are doing a deathless run or whatever and you need to check if an enemy is in the correct position or not (I know you would probably know the terrain already if you are doing deathless anyway). It's a feature that it may not be used frequently, but when you truly need it, you will surely miss it if it's not there.

I like looking down when jumping down the ledge. Espetially on low health! Don't wanna die if I have an option not to

I never would've thought to use the resolution to help with zooming, that's amazing!

The camera look up/down is a must. It also allows you to avoid a design flaw of some Mario games where most pits kill you but sometimes there's a pit with a secret passage. You can never tell. But if you can look around with the camera, it allows to differentiate between traps and safe ways. So you can design levels around the ability to look around.
