The gatekeeping is SO annoying, like I'm just trying to make a game with spaghetti code leave me alone 😭

I saw Isadora's in the thumbnail, and clicked on the video wondering what some random person I don't know has to say about Isadora's, only to realise that you're the Isadora guy. Oops. :D

This is actually insanely useful. No one makes videos about how to make dev log videos, and you're right: there are so many bad ones.

5:16 "I didn't" that was ironically a clever transition

I clicked the video after seeing Isadora's Edge in the background and thinking "What could you possibly say about this awesome game dev sharing his secrets???"
Didn't check the channel and I was delightfully surprised when it was you lol

My big pet peeve is people going "this is how i tricked my players into..." when they're just talking about basic principles of game design.

Game design is not a trick. It's an agreement with the player, who is often fully informed on what they're getting themselves into.

People will describe coyote time as if its some incredible trick they pulled on gullible players, as if people who've played platformers for years have never noticed it.

Or they'll say "I tricked my players into thinking my game is hard, but really, I want them to win"
You didnt "trick" someone just because your game has a learning curve.

I failed making a bunch of devlog videos because of the problems you mentioned. I'll take your advice in my next devlog, thanks!

I can attest to the game maker community being great. The gamemaker forums back in 2007 was still amazing

The indie game devlog scene on here nowadays is either:

- someone so egotistical and overly negative about the game dev process, but if you follow their solution, you will become the perfect game dev.

- or very clickbaity, tiktok oriented, fast paced devlogs where it's less about the game or game dev and more about how many jokes they can crack before the video ends, often including some sort of self proposed challenge.

Those sort of videos are not actually helpful for the game dev process. They're just to help them stay afloat in the algorithm.
