Having to “create the structure” is still me being the parent. It’s still over functioning. It’s still draining. And it doesn’t stop anything. He still forgets and I still have to do everything. Having to break down “I need more help” into hyper specific things all the time is transferring the cognitive load onto my already overloaded system. And when he can’t remember what systems are in place? Then what? I’m. So. Tired.

Watching all these videos you realize the non add person really has to give up everything for the add person. It’s not worth it

The lyrics “who fetches the water from the Rocky Mountain spring and walks back down again to feel your words and their sharp sting? I’m getting f*cking tired!” Sums up my life.
I’m sick of hearing about how to manage ADHD!!!!!!!
What about us?!!!!!!
ADHD comes hand in hand with depression, anxiety, abandonment issues, sleep disorders, rage, constant criticism, incompetence, freeze modes, stonewalling, and many more and WE have to cope with all of it!!!!!!!!!!
22 years of this bullsh!t !!

Often the ADHD person will feel as though they are carrying when a basic level of awareness is required. In their mind the cycle isn’t there it’s just another day. You’re trying to create a peaceful or productive cycle and they are caught up spending 6 hours a day obsessing over a pet cat or something.

I understand it. I'm just tired of it all falling on me. He does nothing to understand it and try to do things to help himself.

It gets hard when someone needs a pat on the back to pickup takeout, then to wash a few dishes, walk the dog, basic life stuff? It’s not my job. The question is how much of that role are you willing to take….

I didn't realise this was what I was experiencing until now. My ex would mention his undiagnosed ADHD throughout our relationship and more so towards the end. I was understanding , patient and supportive but ADHD is an explanation not an excuse. I would make lists, buy calendars , offer reminders and to body double, asked about getting an assessment and if he needed help with that, but he didn't want to help himself. On top of that, it just felt like he was abandoning me and the relationship, spending less and less time together with excuses. I developed insomnia when we moved in together and it only went away after we broke up... I hated the building resentment, I knew I loved him but I was exhausted and tired of talking to a wall

You can deeply love and care for someone but they should meet you half way. That's all I asked of him. But there comes a point were you need to put yourself first, especially if it's draining you and making you ill. You can be a kind caring empathetic and loving partner, but you should be met with the same energy and a partner that wants to help steer the ship, not let you do all the work.

I can appreciate what you’re saying as far as the parent child situation goes, but what you’re forgetting is that the person that doesn’t have ADHD is now stuck with the consequences of the spouse who didn’t get it done. I’m not trashing my credit rating by letting my husband pay all the bills. He will drop the ball and then I’m stuck with the financial consequences that could last year. Not everything is small. Some things are big, and there has to be some kind of medium ground for some of us coping with spouses who can’t reach the mark.

I have to agree with much that has been said after living with an ADHD partner for 40 years He has not been diagnosed as such and does not admit that this is a possibility even though he shows many of the traits and our son, his sister and a niece are all ADHD. I am so tired of constantly organising/reminding/doing. When I try to offer advice I get shouted down as though my view is unimportant. I get it’s a defensive reaction. He has lots of good traits, he’s much more patient than me for example. I recognise what you are saying and can see your comments make sense but it does feel, like other’s have suggested that the onus is on the non ADHD partner to organise and manage the changes you suggest. Maybe I’ve misunderstood something but that is how it comes across. I am always the one that has to do the talking/ the sorting/ the feeling in the relationship and I have tried to be understanding. Yet I am not sure there is understanding or acknowledgement as to how hard it is to be the one responsible for everything/including the relationship. It has been good to hear your comments though, to be honest it has never occurred to me before that the problems in our relationship are not so unusual and that is a relief if nothing else.

I have ADHD and just lost the love of my life. After four years she told me she was exhausted and doesn't want to work on it. I just learned I had ADHD 8 months ago and can't take meds and have been working on. I'm absolutely crushed. I absolutely adore her and thought she was my life partner. I haven't seen her in four days and I literally can't stop crying.
