  I have played competitive tennis for 73 years, been a teaching pro, college coach, and coached one touring pro, so my tennis experience is wide and deep---Andy is so good at analysis of tennis players, tactics and philosophy, then articulating it in a clear manner better than anyone else I have ever heard. Plus, he is screamingly funny in his easy-going laid-back way---using "ego and insecurity" as his motivating factors for tennis greatness!

  Surprised that Andy didn’t mention that Wimbledon changed the type of grass in 2001 and 2004 which was a big part of why people didn’t serve and volley as often.  Rumor is that they came out to Mission Hills and copied their grass.  It may have been Steve Solomon who told us that.

Really appreciate your answer, Andy — just as insightful as I expected.<br><br>Being motivated by ego and insecurity? <b>*HARD RELATE.*</b> There’s almost a strange coping process once you get healthy and balanced enough to move past those particular motivators, where you either have to scramble to find equal motivators or - also important - start developing the tools to find fulfillment and growth in less intense ways.<br><br>Really made my day, folks; rock on. Hope you keep on enjoying this new grind with the podcast; it’s been a delight on my drives home from work and then some. For many years I wanted to hear more of Andy’s personality, and this is about as big of a slam dunk as it can be.

  As a 5’10” guy, Nishikori got sooooo close for that 2014 US open. After 5 sets beating Raonic, 5 sets beating Wawrinka, and 4 sets beating Djokovic, he had nothing left for Cilic, who was super fresh. <br><br>A shorter player with great movement and really crisp ball striking can do it. He held his shots so well and was able to be very unpredictable when taking balls cross court or down the line.

  Martina recently called for making racket heads smaller- saying this would make volleying easier and passes harder- evening things out more. Plus- if more people came in or players just came in more, there wouldn&apos;t be 3 hour 3 set matches and players cramping as much... end half your points in 3-4 shots rather than 20- BIG Improvement.

  Love the way you explain things Andy. &nbsp;I hope you get into commentating as you would be great to hear when watching the USOPEN or other major tournaments. &nbsp;Putting you next to McEnroe in the broadcasting booth would be great.
