  Less known is Peter&apos;s skill at ornamental lathe-work. Accumulating numerous western-built rose engines, which are apparently still displayed somewhere in Russia.

  History is really fascinating in a unique way. I&apos;m also really interested in Russian history, from the time of Kievan Rus&apos; to the major changes in the 20th century. There&apos;s so much interesting stuff to explore!

  There are many interesting details about Peter the Great that weren&apos;t addressed in the video. &nbsp;He is one of the most fascinating people in history. &nbsp; For instance he started taxing men&apos;s beards, at a time when they were worn traditionally, because he felt beards were old school and promoted a lack of progress. &nbsp;He preferred to live and work along tradesmen to learn and understand their trades.<br>The book entitled simply as Peter the Great by Robert K. Massie is one of the best history books I&apos;ve ever read and I highly recommend it. &nbsp; Peter was an amazing character. &nbsp;Intelligent, progressive, high energy, a visionary and a nation builder who had to deal with centuries-old traditions. &nbsp;He very much wanted Russia to be considered a European nation.

  Leibniz may not be a household name in the english speaking world, but even today in Germany every university-city and major institution is proud if it is to house a Leibniz-institute of the sciences of the Leibniz-society.
