Statins are often treated like a “solution” for heart disease but are they actually fixing anything, or mostly treating numbers? In this episode, Dr. Eric Westman reacts to UK emergency medicine doctor “Doctor Alex” and breaks down what statins really do (and what they don’t). We explain how statins lower LDL by changing liver cholesterol production and increasing LDL receptor activity, why that does not mean your arteries get “cleaned out,” and why the most accurate framing is risk reduction not risk elimination.
