I didn't realize that seams pressed open would be better than pressed to one side. I'm a beginner quilter and I'm teaching myself. Thank you to you and to Ruth. ~~ Lynne

Great tips! Knew all of them. But I'm 72 and learned quilting from my grand aunt who was born in 1882. I still make my quilts from scraps. But today everyone wants new everything. I'm giving classes in how to make a quilt from vintage fabric and "source" materials. Ha! These last two generations need to learn or it will be lost forever. I live in New Mexico but I was born and raised in South Texas. We are Lipan Apache. My grand aunt learned all the needle arts in Indian Mission School, where she was sent as a child.

I know most of these. Most of my fabrics were bought new, not only because they are beautiful, but because I don’t have old scraps. I live mostly in sweaters and jeans. The old scraps were used up a long time ago.

Some of your AI is a bit off but I agree with most of your information. The biggest thing I disagree with is the two thimbles. Most hand quilters don't have a thimble under the quilt. They have a callus on the underneath finger from feeling the needle tip.
