The scripted part reminds me of working for Total Wine and More. Imagine that, a liquor store with a script and a sales quota

I work sales in Indianapolis. 20$ hour for training first 2-3 weeks then 100% commission based

What he has to say about conforming to scripts is fair if you are looking to work for Carmax in their sales area. Outside of sales is something different I cannot comment on. I worked at Carmax as a "customer experience consultant" for 2 years and did my job well. I worked by phone and computer systems to learn customer buy and sell situations to drive that customer to the "right fit" solution. Good luck with submitting an application on the company's job site. You will have to take a lengthy algorithm driven assessment with hypothetical questions. If you don't answer in such a way that meets what they are looking for, you are immediately disqualified even though you may have a great background on your resume. In my opinion, they depend too heavily on that assessment, which can be skewed and cause Carmax to miss out on really good talent.

They still micromanage down to the appraisal process at least at my store they do it’s so annoying and the store manager has never sold cars you can tell. I’m considering going to a traditional car store soon because of all the extensive micromanaging the push heavy this express pick up process even when a customer is simply wanting to just test drive a car

I worked for a major trucking company. In a weird way, it was easier onboarding those who just earned their CDL because they take everything I said (and by “said” what I was really doing was parroting company policy) as the gospel truth. Very little arguing. But those who came in with years of truck driving experience, though very comfortable behind the wheel (a huge plus!), argued about how stupid the policies are/were. Anyway, having zero sales experience, CarMax would be my first choice if I were to seek a sales position. “Just tell me what you want me to say, because I don’t know shit from shoeshine.”. I’d be ok with that and also, because I recently bought a car at a CarMax and it wasn’t that bad of an experience. Sounds like CarMax ain’t the worst place to earn money. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with the newbies, and those of us questioning if they’d be a good fit (or for those of us trying to motivate a younger loved one into trying something else).

Fascinating story

If I had an in-person interview for sales and they said they’d call me in 2 days , does that mean I’m probably not getting the job?

My Friend has multiple felony convictions from being an idot at 18 and 19. They hired him anyway in the Denver area if that helps anyone. Just because carmax background checks doesn't mean they activity discriminate against excons.

I guess it definitely depends on location cuz my friend has been loving how it is working at car max. It’s $20 an hour plus a flat rate commission and he said they could care less about the script if you can move cars. If your not selling and ur not using the script they will then have an issue. I guess he just got lucky with location

Is it open sales floor or first up?<br>Is telemarketing required?<br>Ty<br>I only have 1 month experience <br>It was open floor and telemarketing was required <br>I was terminated for lack of sales on my first day on the floor because I couldn't get two customers in the door but neither could the manager so <br>Somehow that's my fault LOL<br>It was a chaotic environment for me <br>I need more structure<br>So open floor is not for me
