  We don't have fast lanes in the UK, there is only Overtake lanes, we struggle with lane hoggers that don't go back into the left lane once they have overtaken.

  The guy, what with being an instructor, is massively thorough, since he&apos;s teaching newbies, but he left the easiest way to recognise a motorway to the end: <br><br>The signs are blue (normal roads tend to be white), and there are overhead gantries (the scaffolding with speed limit signals etc on them). <br><br>If it&apos;s the M25 that goes around London, the other indicator that you are on the motorway is that you have been stuck in a giant traffic jam for several hours, and are not moving at more than 5mph 😂😂

  This is why our, UK, driving tests are in two parts and are quite long. Sometimes, drivers will move to a middle lane to let you join the first lane safely.

  We don’t have any Motorway’s at all in Cornwall, I’d been driving for 20 years before I went on a Motorway. I remember coming towards those Blue Signs in Exeter as I was merging on to the Motorway and nearly peeing myself 😂

  When cars are merging people are typically courteous and will move over to allow people to join

  I think you got a few things confused there. All motorways are dual carriageways (besides that one weird one exception he showed), and motorways have a speed limit of up to 70mph.<br><br>A-roads are one step down from motorways, some are dual carriageways and so have a speed limit of up to 70mph, some are single carriageways and so have a speed limit of up to 60 mph.<br><br>In all cases the speed limit can be lower when signs indicate.

  I hadn&apos;t driven for a long time so I took refresher lessons. The nearest motorway to &nbsp;my home is about ten miles away. My instructor took me too the section near to Grange mouth, and the Helix. The Helix is an huge park which is home to the sculpture of The Kelpies which are giant horse&apos;s heads. My instructor confidently said &apos; this will give you practise getting up to an high speed.&apos; We joined the motorway. Everything was going about 25 mph. 5 minutes later everything is still going at the same speed. No roadworks, it was tourist season and &nbsp;just the traffic slowing while the drivers looked at the Kelpies😂

  My hometown sits on the A1(M). It is written this way to indicate that only parts of the road are Motorway status, and other parts of the same road are A road status. The M1 is a totally different road which is entirely Motorway status.

  A road designation with an M in parenthesis means that its an A road with part of it a Motorway. There will be signage at some point to tell someone who is not allowed on a Motorway that this is coming up and to exit at the next exit.
