The fact that someone is even surprised by this boggles my mind

For him, it was the most amazing thing he had ever seen; for us, it was Tuesday.

In Europe there's a good chance that while training to get your licence you will encounter a flashing ambulance and your instructor will immediately coach you through on how you should act.

This is the respect we show to all emergency responders, not just our ambulance service

This is Stevenage in the UK and is absolutely standard everywhere in the UK, honestly I'm more shocked that you're shocked.

as someone from the UK it feels wierd looking at someone being so suprised at what I thought was normal from the day we start driving - one of the things we learn in driving school

there is a very simple explanation: no brit can survive the shame of being the one who obstructed the ambulance

Every driver in the UK is brought up with the mindset, "that ambulance could be heading to you or your family one day". You move for them as you would expect them to move for you😊

When my Mum gave birth to me, she unfortunately began to bleed out and they didn't have the supplies at the hospital she was at to treat her fully so they had to blue light her to the bigger hospital to save her life.

She was stable and unconscious so my Dad (trying to calm himself down) stood up to watch the drive through the window and he was amazed at how the traffic parted for the ambulance. It was very heavy traffic and for a journey that would ordinarily take 30 minutes at that time of day they managed to do it in 12.

When he tells me this story, he always says not only did the Drs, nurses, paramedics and blood donors save my Mum's life, but so did every person driving that day who allowed my Mum to get to the bigger hospital in time for the blood transfusions she desperately needed.
