We don't have jay walking in the UK, we call it crossing the road and are taught how to do this safely from childhood!

As a European, it blows my mind you've never been on a train!

Tipping does happen in the UK but it is a reward for good service rather than an expectation.

The reason the tube trains are that size is because it's the oldest subway system in the world & most of it was dug with picks & shovels. obviously the trains have to fit through the tunnels. The newer parts are bigger because they used tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to make those.

If you hang out in tourist hot spots it stands to reason you're going to hear a lot of foreign languages.

 THE TWO TAPS THING:
It’s a hygiene thing. In older UK buildings the cold water would come straight from the main, but the hot water would first have to sit in a tank with a heating element (that’s why it used to be possible to “run out” of hot water if everyone had a bath the same day…
The point is that the hot tanks would get contaminated with bacteria and be hard to keep clean, so while this water would be fine to wash with, it wasn’t always SURE to be safe to drink. As such, the hot water HAD to be kept entirely separate from the cold - right up to the two separate taps - to avoid contaminating the cold water.
In most new buildings - and modernised old buildings - the hot passes through a combi boiler which heats it instantly so there’s no risk of contamination, so in these places you DO find mixer taps. The separate taps are gradually disappearing.

Oh and there’s no such thing as “jaywalking” in the Uk. There’s just “crossing the road” and it’s legal.

The irony of foreigners remarking on how many foreigners are in the city they are visiting.

Imagine being told you live in the most free country on earth, whilst simultaneously not being allowed to cross the road without help 😅
