Pub is short for "public house", that says it all. it's like a living-room for the entire community.

There's only two rules in British pubs.
Rule 1, don't be a nob.
Rule 2, if you're not sure about the etiquette, refer to rule 1.

One additional for rule for Americans, ssshhhh.....! We're not deaf.

Rufus, my BLIND 14y.o. Most pubs in Britain will change their carpets when needed and shampoo them regularly, also a pub carpet will be a far more expensive to buy than a house one, far harder to wear out.

The invisible pub queue is real, but is sometimes reliant on the server to police

2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps is the name of a 90s UK TV show. It's a comedy 👍🏻

The invisible queue is real. I remember when waiting for buses in the UK that when the bus arrives everyone seems to get on in the order of who was waiting first. Of course, people arrive to the queue at different times but you learn that Brits make a mental note when they arrive at the stop of who was already there before them and wait till they have got on first they get on themselves. Nobody says anything. They just know!!
