The fact that you acknowledge church history is critical here because in the early days you have had various Jesus movement communities, who had various beliefs. From gnostic text, we can clearly see that early Jesus movement communities and wildly different ideas. The johanian community that wrote the gospel of John clearly thought Jesus was more divine in nature so when you really look at this as a patchwork of various texts from various communities, it becomes even more clear what a problem this is

Whatever nausea-and-dizziness-inducing word salad Christians might come up with to try to explain the Trinity, it really boils down to "They are the same thing, and are not the same thing, at the same time." Then they'll tell you they invented logic.
