I remember as a kid feeling bad for Cain having his grain sacrifice rejected. Kind of like berating a 4 year old for their pasta art not being good enough.

God was against child sacrifice so much that he sacrificed his own child. It never made any sense to me.

I was ALWAYS getting in trouble for asking questions like, "Why did god put a tree that they couldn't eat from in a garden anyway?" And "where was Cane supposed to get a blood sacrifice if he was a farmer?" I was told I was sinning for questioning the word of the lord. I see now I was just asking questions they COULDN'T answer without questioning their own faith, so they told a CHILD that if she kept asking questions like that, she wouldn't go to heaven.

When I was very much a Christian and convinced I had a good relationship with what I thought was God, I still asked one of my church leaders: 'What's with all the blood?'
They answered: Blood is always moving and is present throughout the entire body.
They related this to how Christ should be in our lives - always present, always active and lost without.
I remember being so impressed and satisfied with the depth and poetic symbolism, that I was literally unaffected by any biblical blood references after that. To me it was just beautiful symbolism.
It's scary how numb you become to red flags while you're completely overtaken by a Christian mindset.
I'm thankful that I was finally able to get out; but still disturbed about how vividly I thought something was good while it was actually evil.

They pretend to be morally superior for not sacrificing yet their entire religion exists bc of human sacrifice

This bothered me as a child and as a teenager and as a young adult. There was a part of me deep down inside that thought it was wrong and disgusting, but when you're raised this way and you're told that you don't understand because you're too young or you don't have the holy spirit.
A lot of gaslighting 😢

So... vampirism. I mean... "Drink my blood and live forever", that is literally vampirism, right?

When I was in high school, I took this class where the teacher was reading the Bible as literature so I tried to do it too, and I could not get through more than like a quarter of it because it was too violent. It wasn’t even interesting. it was just plain violent for the sake of violence.

Taking the time to actually read the Bible was the most important part of my personal deconstruction.

My name is Stephen. They put on play at my parents church when I was a child reenacting the stoning of Stephen in full costume. It scared the shit out of me. I screamed at the top of my lungs. I had to be removed. I feared church after that. It probably saved me from being indoctrinated.
