  The most fascinating part of the Kursk story is that the famous narrative of Hitler forcing reluctant generals into the attack does not match the documentary record presented here. Guderian opposed the offensive, but Model's aerial photographs showed something even more important: the Soviets had transformed the battlefield into a deeply fortified defense while the German command kept debating whether to attack.

  I really love how this channel is objective it could be, and put an end to many myths. Even if it means my favourite german general, Guderian gets less love. Adding maps to your videos could be immensely useful though.

  Mannstein and others wanted a defensive line bouts with 88s and withdraw the Kursk salient to conserve German forces.

  There was a mole in OKH who was leaking high quality info to Soviet intelligence in Switzerland. STAVKA knew everything and prepared a trap at the Kursk salient.

  You know it's hilarious that everyone always points out the mistakes the Germans made and what could have changed the course of the war.  What about the Soviets?  Stalin ignored the frontline reports up until the day the Wehrmacht stormed into Soviet territory.  What if Stalin didn't ignore the reports and set up a defense in depth?  What if the Soviets weren't in the middle of reorganizing their armies?  Point is, every side made mistakes which could've changed the course of the war if they didn't make them, but just because the course is changed doesn't mean the ending will be different.

  It wasn't much of a concession by Guderian to acknowledge Liddell Hart. In his book "Achtung Panzer!", Guderian refers frequently to British tank development and research. Liddell Hart was in that group. In 1943, the German army was in dire need of depth of strength, and in technological terms, premature for the tanks and other arms. The argument for Kursk was shallow. After Kursk, smaller units like 48th Panzer Corps proved that properly supported and maintained armoured units could be extremely effective. Kursk demolished the rebuilding efforts Guderian was trying to support.
