Nobody kissed German Commander ass any better than Basil Liddell Hart. The guy was so fascinated by the Wermacht leadership and so willing to put in a good word for any of them.

The biggest myth in Rommel’s North Africa story is that his army lost simply because Berlin and Rome failed to send enough supplies. The records show a harder truth: even when the ships got through, the enormous distance and weak transport network made it nearly impossible to move enough fuel and ammunition from the ports to the front.

The only major supply of fuel and ammo was along a single two lane road along the African coast. It had no supporting rail line. With limited port facilities it was extremely difficult to advance the German Army. In effect, it advanced beyond its supply.

Can you imagine , as the 2nd Battle for El Alamein wore down the Germans had left only 38 tanks working! That's it. Sure the Brits had big losses too. But they were going to get resupply..
