The psychology of not wanting to spend your investments is so real. I felt that.

Same here. I’m focusing more on having enough cash and short-term Treasuries to cover my expenses than trying to predict the next market move. March 2026 showed how quickly fear can turn into a recovery. Staying calm and having a plan makes a big difference.

I'm living on SS and pension. Own my house and no debt. Building a t-bill ladder. Remember March 2026 when the market took a deep hit, it snapped back A lot of nervous people out there. Just have a year or two of living expenses.

The one thing we may disagree too is on your definition of risk. You tend to define it as volatility when to me, the risk is not being able to fund the life you want. So long term inflation is more of a risk to me than to you, cash reserve and bonds are more of a risk to me than to you. Fear of volatility has ruined more people than volatility itself. So to me the real risk is our fears and fears can be fought only through knowledge. Deep knowledge about what money is all about, without the bias, without the smoke and mirrors (sequence risks, volatility, dividends etc...). The real thing that makes you richer or poorer and that are in your control and that you need to learn and master are savings rate, income, fees and taxes. Maybe a bit of philosophy too as to why are you working and saving that much and how you should spend it later and when this later is. That's where the risks are to me.
