On July 2, 1863, Captain John Bigelow and the men of the 9th Massachusetts Battery found themselves in one of the most desperate fights of the Battle of Gettysburg. Ordered to hold their position at all costs near the Peach Orchard, the battery endured relentless Confederate attacks while buying precious time for the Union army to establish a stronger defensive line.
