I have walked Pickett's charge from Seminary Ridge where the 57th Virginia Reg't started marching to the corps of trees by the angle to the area where King David Richards, yes his proper full name, fell and died the next day. His wife, Harriett Love Richards, my 3rd great aunt gave birth to their only child, a daughter, a couple of months later. She never met her father. It was an extremely chilling experience to walk in his steps knowing his story.

Real History. Every American should walk the battlefield of Gettysburg; it is sacred ground, you feel it, and you will be moved.

I have always been in awe of the soldiers of the American Civil War, of both sides; Union and Confederate. I cannot imagine the courage and resolve required to move forward, exposed, into the teeth of concentrated artillery and musket fire, knowing that your odds of coming through it alive and unscathed were probably less than fifty-fifty. The First Minnesota (my home state) suffered 80% or 90% casualties at Gettysburg, but never wavered. I don't think I could have done that and, thankfully, I have never had to find out. And, I thank God for each and every one of those brave men.

Rest In Peace.

Geoge S. Patton's declaration "compared to war, all other efforts of mankind shrink to insignifigance" is sad, but true.

many years after the battle Pickett was asked why did his charge failed? he answered "I think the Yankee's had something to do with it"...

Remarkable account, showing the value of eye witness testimony. If this is to be believed, Pickett's insane charge came much closer to success than the standard histories admit.

I walked at that spot and it’s incredibly to be there.
I also walked the railway crossing at Halbe in Germany where the 9th army streamed across into Soviet fire.
Places better visit as a tourist than a participant.

Had the privilege of standing at the Bloody Angle and the hill overlooking Omaha Beach. So peaceful now--but knowing what happened at those locations--horrific. Sadly, Haskell was killed in action a few months later at the Battle of Cold Harbor.

This was an excellent, excellent presentation. I wasn't sure about the mapping at first, but as the battle progressed, it was very intuitive, informative, and easy to follow the battle's progress! The narrative editing choices were spot on. Powerfully done, sir!

Phenomenal video-in all of my reading about the Civil War I'd never heard of Officer Haskell. Quite a sobering experience to really hear about how it truly went down after the breach of the stone wall by the Rebels-he was a true Hero! Was sorry to read that he died at Cold Harbor later on. I knew how intense the brawl was and thank God that Haskell was able to find Hall and have his troops rush to the breach. 33 Rebel flags were taken? That is chilling. I wonder where those flags are now , did any end up at the Smithsonian? Great job on this, keep up the great work!
