Been telling people for DECADES... your ROOM has MORE TO DO WITH YOUR SOUND THAN YOUR GEAR DOES. Do they LISTEN? NO for the most part. I don't bother anymore.

This is why I bought an RME 802FS. Their record of support devices is legendary and the quality is top notch.

Awesome video! I found a VERY similar scene with Mic Pres and Microphones. Marketing is so intense that people hear diferences that don't exist on playback. 3K for a preamp? 7K for a mic???? please look into this one and put out a video.

I purchased a Line 6 Helix for all my guitar and vocals needs, recording, live show, DI recording, etc. Also I’m using it for all my mixes and mastering and the quality is unbelievable considering I also have a Focusrite Clarett and 2 Motu mk3. 😊
I believe the price I’ve paid for my Helix is the best investment over the other brands

That isn't how it works. You can buy chips and they do nothing by themselves. They need to be combined with more hardware and, tooling, and engineering. None of that is free.

I went crazy awhile back and replaced my system with a high end IO, did it again about a year later with something even more expensive, then eventually sold it all and went back to my 15 year old RME UCX. Sounds about the same as the others.

I love how the picture of the bearded Sweetwater promo man is being cut into this clip -- particularly at times when the narrator is talking about the most egregious violations levied against the thoroughly duped pro audio gear consumers.

In a way, yes... the components don't cost more than a tenth of the retail price of a product.... but we aren't just paying for those components, nor the premium for just an aluminum chassis. We are paying for the work of setting it up, the cost of someone's IP (intellectual property) or in other words, the know how of creating the product!... And then even more important, the software of the unit, and the software on the computer that allows further configuration. This usually is (or at least, was) something the cheap equipment, doesn't even offer (or offered).

Also, we are paying for the entire fabrics cost of manufacturing the end product, rental, electricity, machinery, etc... that's costs that ads up... And yes, even the marketing (ads) the company make, are included in the price. And at the end of everything, there's someone wanting to make money from their business, which isn't strange at all.

If you go to the grocery store, and get different things, the total always makes you feel, they must have done something wrong, but no!... Even those extra cents on every product adds up. And when you come home, you just have a bunch of ingredients... Not the delicious meal you might or not make. If you wanted an amazing meal, you might need to pay a chef to make it for you. That meal, will definitely cost you more than the ingredients. Oh, and you better include the cars electricity or gas, the tires you're using, etc... cause guess what, one day, you will have to pay for an upgrade!.see? Even a meal, has secret costs. Heck even your house mortgage, electricity, water, etc... cause where are you going to make that meal, and sit and eat it, if you get evicted, and have to live on the streets?

And with all that said. Yeah... We all hope to spend less on our stuff. I get that, but just think a little bit. If you have the ability to turn cheap electronic components, into the end product... you would at least make it for yourself. And if you were smart, you would start making them for selling them. Once you start going pro, need people working for you, to make them faster, and then paying the rent of the manufacturing plant, etc... you won't think the same anymore ;)

Spot on. Your ears and experience are your real investments—not the faceplates. This isn’t the early 2000s anymore; modern conversion and components are so good across the board that the law of diminishing returns hits fast.

I sold my Apogee Symphony for nearly what I paid, swapped to an SSL 18, and invested the difference. Over the last five years, I did the exact same thing with my high-end mics and boutique preamps. Now I track through a WA-87, a Slate VMS, and the SSL preamps, and the end product is just as competitive as the five-figure rig.

Spend your money how you want, but master your craft first. An end listener is never going to hear the difference between a boutique converter and a solid interface.
