  Highend mics and gear have brought in a ton of 1st time clients into my studios. They're all fantastic pieces of gear but to some degree they're still client bait. I'd be a liar if I said I couldn't do my job with gear that's a fraction of the price.

  About 20 years ago I released some techno tracks on a small label. The label owner and several other producers have complimented me for my open, spacious and balanced sound. Some wanted their tracks remixed and mastered by me and so I did. What they never knew is that I did all my producing, processing and rendering with just a 16-bit Soundblaster soundcard and a set of small Event monitor speakers😊

  Room correction is real. Addressed some anomalies that cost me countless hours of time. I really don't even worry about translation anymore.

  I had a commercial studio in LA for 20 years. When the mic pre craze was winding up in the early 90’s we did a shoot out between a neve 1272, a hand built single channel pre that was selling for $7,000 (in the 90’s!) and a starved tube stereo pre that I bought as a kit and built myself for $129. In the shootout people were all over the place in what they liked and the $129 pre I built was just as likely to picked as the favorite as the $7000 pre. I’ve been in pro audio for 50 years. Audio is subjective so there is no right answer. People like what they like and it ends there

  There can be an advantage to gold plated connectors for installs where you will never disconnect the cable. Male and female ends should always be same material. Idea being the gold will not corrode. Unplugging/plugging the cable is enough to prevent corrosion on a standard jack, and because gold plating is so thin, can wear through the plating in a frequently connected application.

  The irony that Mogami can sell janky audiophile stuff but 2524 and 2431 are what makes up most decent cables and sells in 500ft spools by the thousand. Shielding is really secondary to balanced connections, as most noise you can have induced in the cable will be solved by the CMRR of balancing. You&apos;d be surprised what nice stuff are single ended internally, with op-amp balancing.

  I&apos;d love to see a video of you tackling studio noises (amp noises guitar buzzing etc) and some products that can really help with that. Separating whats snake oil and whats not.
