  I visited Sledge’s grave for memorial day last year along with Sidney Phillips. They are buried near each other in Mobile.

  I went to school with Henry Sledge and knew most of the family. They’re great people and Eugene is a legend….Thanks JD for this episode.

  When Henry says that the artifact are going into a museum, I really really hope that the museum that he’s referring to is the Gettysburg Museum of History. That would be the PERFECT fit.

  This is amazing. My great uncle (grandfather brother) was killed at battle of Peleliu he was a marine. Sledge must have known him! Also I’m happy my grandfather survived Pearl Harbor @ wheeler field. Unfortunately he passed away some years before my birth. <br>Thank you for what you do, your stories keeps the memories alive and sometimes you keep our family members alive. Thanks JD

  Thank you so much for this episode. I have watched and rewatched Ken Burns&apos; documentary series The War so many times, and that is the way I know Eugene Sledge and Sid Phillips&apos; stories. Loved them both from the beginning. This episode reminds us of how much these men gave - how much they endured. And how young they were. Thanks to his son for keeping their memory alive.
