There's massive respect between our two clubs as well. When Munich happened and we lost most of our players, Liverpool were the first Club to offer us players to be able to continue in the League.
Also, when Ronaldo's son died, the ball went into touch on seven minutes and the Liverpool fans all sang him You'll Never Walk Alone.
And when Liverpool play at Old Trafford, we leave 96 seats empty.

This is actually a healthy rivalry between clubs. Liverpool and Manchester United built their success from the ground up, unlike some modern clubs that were transformed by investments from oil rich states.

I was born 20 miles north of Liverpool and Manchester. Our dad was a cricketer and wasn't much interested in football. When we were young, my brother decided to support Liverpool so, of course, I chose to support United! 😂 My brother's 60 this year.

Fun fact.
Salah is the player who has scored the most goals in this derby.

Doesn't mention that Manchester United were the first ever English club to win the European Cup in 1968, 10 years after the Munich air disaster where 8 Manchester United players had lost thier lives.

In 2025, Liverpool won their 20th league title under Arne Slot. Both teams are now level.

This video is missing so much.

The cities were at a trade war in the 1800s. While Liverpool is older it made its money on slavery and being the second most important port behind London in the empire. Once we abolished slavery they heavily relied on the port but got greedy
Manchester became the first ever purpose built city for industry, the reason why people live by their factory or place of work now is because of Manchester. We imported cotton so had to use the docks at Liverpool to recieve it, as they started charging ridiculous prices, the people who ran Manchester decided to build a canal to run along the river basically bypassing the Liverpool docks and ships could now sail right up into Salford and drop off and send out cargo at the turn of the 1900s. This took money away from Liverpool and they started to decline while Manchester started to benefit. So it's a rivalry that goes way beyond football.

A few facts about Manchester

-during the American civil war Manchester refused to buy cotton off the Confederates. This almost starved the city and Abraham Lincoln addressed Manchester for their sacrifice, we have a statue of him in Lincoln square.

- Engels wrote his pre cursor to the communist manifesto called "the conditions of the working class" about nearby Stockport. After both him and Marx spend lots of time in industrial Manchester and saw how the workers were treated. Manchester at the time had an average life expectancy for a mill worker at 19. There are graves all over the city, some of them mass graves for these victims of hard-line captialism without relief. This encourage them to write both das capital and the communist manifesto (forget the botched attempts afterwards of communist states, this was the first time that workers were considered)
-The atom was split in Manchester by Ernest Rutherford
- One of the first ever computers was also developed in Manchester
- Women's suffrage and the suffragette movement was based in Manchester.

As Liverpool grew old and a city of empire Manchester became a city of science and people's rights. It shows a great cross over into modernism.

Both cities are fiercely proud, and football is our outlet. We will argue about who has the best teams, the best bands anything and we are born to dislike each other.

However that's where it changes we will argue tooth and nail but if someone from outside of the North west was to come giving it the big one we would team up and defend our region.
Whoever I travel the world (currently residing in Vietnam for the last decade) you'll find Mancs and scousers having a frosty start but they soon become inseparable, until game week of course.

Two cities, two peoples but with lots of similarities. And two of the biggest clubs in World football and the best cities for music, all from our little corner of the country
