  I know this is way below your skills but it&apos;s such a pleasure to have this beginners tutorial. I knew how to sew buttons but now I know how to sew them stronger.

  Fun bonus tip, if you have button up shirts that gap awkwardly, you can add extra buttons, but reverse the side so you can&apos;t see the buttons from the outside. Add the button holes to the side with the original buttons and sew the buttons to the side with the original button holes (just be careful that you only sew through the inner side of the plaquet so that you stitches aren&apos;t visible from the outside).

  My grandfather was a tailor. Way back when. He always stuck a matchstick between the button and the fabric for the spacing. Forgot about that until this.

  Bernadette: I was once lucky enough to find myself at an estate sale, but couldn&apos;t afford anything until they unearthed a box of buttons. One glance told me, yes, get these! For eighteen dollars I found I had purchased almost a century of buttons - from the 1860&apos;s (some had dates on them!) to 1940&apos;s Bakelite. There were two surprises: first a set of mother of pearl buttons with three holes (!), the other a series of buttons for doll clothes, so miniscule I still haven&apos;t found a needle small enough to go through the holes. It&apos;s amazing what a simple box of buttons can unearth, but I&apos;m sure you already know this.

  I actually really appreciate that you repeated information for each button (like the reminder to keep space for the button hole side of the fabric). It makes the tutorial much easier to use for the 2nd and 3rd button types

  It takes an expert to properly teach basic skills. I&apos;ve been sewing on buttons since I was a kid, mom had no patience to teach - she certainly didn&apos;t know all these techniques. So I just made it up, and it was not pretty. &nbsp;Thank you for valuing those of us who never were properly taught the &apos;simple&apos; tasks.

  I thought I knew how to sew on a button, really easy task, but I watched anyway because it&apos;s Bernadette. I didn&apos;t know about the post wrapping step, I&apos;ve also been sewing on buttons too tight. My most important take away from this video was that a really tight button doesn&apos;t equate to a really secure (and functional) button. I&apos;m amazed at how much detail you went through about a topic that I scoffed at being ridiculously easy. Thank you for not assuming anything and for an excellent non-patronising presentation too. Also wonderful close-up camera angle that&apos;s all in focus and easy to see what you&apos;re doing. Brilliant stuff! Looking forward to the next one.

  I didn&apos;t realize there was such an elegant way to tie off that first knot, I can now banish that knob of knots I&apos;ve been forming at the beginning every time
