  As a queer transmasc, Obsession freaked me out. I live in constant fear of men stripping away my autonomy and consent, and the fact that Bear did that to someone he claimed to love is so terrifying.   thank you thank you thank youuuu for bringing up reactive abuse, because i walked away from this movie and immediately thought &quot;wow it feels so rare to see a movie depict reactive abuse just in general, let alone so raw and real&quot; and its been driving me crazy that i&apos;ve yet to see anybody acknowledge that angle

  It’s insane people joking about how they’re just like Nikki and how it’s so cute/quirky. When I related to her character the scenes were genuinely triggering. It’s not fun to be in her position, she’s not some toxic gf, she lost her autonomy while being attached to the person hurting her.

  I immediately recognized the theme of “reactive abuse”. I wish we had a different word for that as it’s so misleading. I was so triggered by Bear as he was so similar to my emotionally and sexually abusive ex bf. He was never actively violent, so passive on the surface but was so deeply manipulative and coercive. Not out of malice, but pure selfishness and narcissism. He actually made me go insane, I felt like two different people existed in me, a person where his “true love” was a reality, vs a person that was SA’d and gaslit into thinking it never occurred, freaking tf out. My mood became so unstable he would say HE was scared of ME. Now that I’ve escaped him I’ve been completely fine, I’ve never behaved that way w anyone before nor since, interesting how that works.

  I’m OBSESSED with this movie as a fellow lesbian. I broke down sobbing during the scene where Nikki was begging for his forgiveness and saying she’ll be whatever he wants. Walked out that amc dissociating hard as fuck hyperventilating too. Had to sit on the curb and hit my pen for a bit😭
