  Something I also find interesting is how being single is supposed to be a reflection of your sexuality, especially for women. If a female character is designed to not be boy-crazy or obsessed with relationships, she&apos;s not straight, which didn&apos;t always add up to me. It&apos;s one thing to headcanon someone&apos;s sexuality, but the reasoning being &quot;she wasn&apos;t all over guys&quot; is a poor excuse.

  I always thought my mom was strange for assuming I&apos;m lesbian because I don&apos;t like dresses, I didn&apos;t realize it was such a widespread issue.

  I would love to see a reverse of this trope where the character is the most aggressively heterosexual-coded girl you’ve ever seen and then she later gets a girlfriend.

  with both the straight lesbian and the straight gay man tropes you&apos;ve covered, i can&apos;t help but feel that these characters aren&apos;t meant to show the range of gendered expression that heterosexuals can have, but rather a way to include gay jokes without actually having gay characters. i think about this especially when looking at the children&apos;s media you&apos;ve analyzed. and while i do really enjoy your analyses and think these are also very spot on, it feels like repressing actual queer representation in favor of making constant jokes and derision at queer people&apos;s expense is something that was overlooked. we have no way of knowing for sure if these characters were initially intended to be gay or straight either, as i think, especially with the children&apos;s media, it&apos;s possible that that <b>was</b> the intention, but it was shot down.

  I don&apos;t like how Miranda became our LGBTQ+ representation in &quot;And Just Like That&quot; because Samantha canonically had a relationship with a woman and questioned her sexuality at one point. It would have been cool to see Samantha explore that more.
