  Shotguns don’t just have to be a Human thing. Halo’s Mauler is a shotgun-revolver manufactured by the Brutes, 9-foot tall alien gorilla-bears who need very large handguns for their equally large hands.

  Honestly, I think shotguns are the one modern weapon type that makes sense in a high-tech world, precisely because it can fire multiple different rounds. Birdshot, buckshot, slug, sabot, flechette, grenade, baton(/rubber), taser, breaching, birdbomb, screecher, dragonbreath, bolo and flare rounds, and those are just the ones on the market <i>today</i> .

  I love how every sci fi race is always stereotyped into viewing human kinetic weaponry as primitive. My favorite play on this trope is in halo, where the sangheili view our weapons as primitive and uncivilized, but the jiralhanae see their buddy get blown to shit with a pump action explosion tube and immediately steals one for himself, before subsequently flex taping a gravity hammer on the end of it (bonus points for kig-yar picking up human snipers like &quot;a weapon is a weapon, I really don&apos;t fucking care&quot;)

  Sometimes <b>cha-chonk</b> is all you need for compliance. &nbsp;That sound of charging the shotty is worse than a rattlesnake&apos;s rattle and up there with Mom screaming your full name.

  Scifi shotguns are just simple guns beacuse simplicity is less expensive than high tech guns so it make sense why shotguns are still produce in the far future.<br><br>Edit:Wow, i did not expect this to have soo many likes, thank you.

  We haven&apos;t changed the basic form or function of the shotgun since 1882, no reason to think it wouldn&apos;t be the same another 150 years from now or even longer

  The benefit of using a pump, especially on large load shotguns, is that none of the recoil of the shell has to be used to cycle the gun. You can have the gun completely locked during firing to absorb massive recoil, then after it&apos;s done manually cycle it gently. Prevents a ton of wear and tear.
