  One thing I love about the Pattinson collar and shoulders is it somewhat evokes the silhouette of a trench coat which really plays into the detective aspect of Batman and the noir vibe of the whole film

  Pretty simple problem of why translating Comic book character costumes into real life: the figures are ostensibly drawn 'naked'. They are figure drawings with the 'suits' painted on them.

  It is worth mentioning that the Keaton suits specifically were designed for his cloak to be able to fully cover his body, unlike every other suit that has the cape behind the back (even Bale’s first suit didn’t fully cover his torso). In the cloaked state the issues regarding his frame are pretty much solved and it gave him the classic Batman/vampire silhouette so I would say that’s the biggest strength of the suit.

  I agree, the Pattinson collar does wonders for correcting prior suits’ errors. But I also think — from a design perspective — that the collar is kind of genius. It evokes this dracula-vampire-esque aesthetic of a detective who is on a a relentless mission. I was getting Vampire Sherlock vibes. It’s SO RAW.

  Battinson really is my favorite as it manages to not make his neck look massive whilst preserving his strong silhouette. Also the general aesthetic manages to look both professional and diy, its a really impressive accomplishment

  A couple of things come to mind. First, I read once that the producers of the original Flash show in the 90s found the same problem with using plain fabric. Originally, they were going to put John Wesley Shipp basically into a red leotard, but when they did so they found that all muscle definition went right out the window. Second, interesting comment about the different colors on the Pattison suit. One problem I always had with the straight black costumes is that, far from allowing one to blend into darkness at night, they'd actually make you stand out. True nighttime darkness is not pitch black, so an all-black suit would make one a distinctly visual blob moving around. Different shades and tones would allow for a lot more invisibility.

  Affleck's costume is just an armor with fabric wrapped over it. You can clearly see it when he's opening the armor case. And the first cowl was actually designed to be flexible unlike the latter version where his head looks smaller

  I love how the Pattinson suit and even the whole movie feel like a noir update to Adam West’s Batman, like when he punches Gordon and runs through the GCPD or the “Thumb…drive” line both feel like the kind of camp that would be right at home in the 66 series
