  The hardest part wasn't learning what the UK offers — it was sitting with the question of how long I'd called something freedom without ever checking if it was actually mine.   I've come to understand that America IS the greatest country in the democratic west.... for exploiting its citizens and disguising it as liberty.

  As an American living in UK , I fully agree with what you have pointed out , but that is just the tip of the iceberg . There is so much more in UK we have freedom way beyond anything available in USA !

  The fear of illness bankrupting you, the fear of sending your children to school, the fear of losing your job, the fear of being the wrong colour at a police control, you can only be free if you live without fear! America land of the fearful.

  I cannot get over how you're expected to give your life to a company but in return they can fire you with immediate effect for no reason.

  European healthcare is pretty good. Very impressed by Italy and although the UK isn't perfect, the NHS sorted my wife's cancer and we still live in our own home. Even the parking was free once the actual treatment starred.

  When I was an auditor, it was customary to investigate key staff who did not take their holidays/vacations; fraudster frequently need to stay  at he job to keep covering up their fraud!

  Bank holidays were originally created in Victorian times so banks could close to give bank employees a break and prevent financial mistakes, thus the name "bank holiday"
