  I live in PA, and around where I live in Monroe County I&apos;ve seen lots of black bears. There&apos;s one big fellow who walked right by my Grand Cherokee so I had a good estimate of his size, somewhere around 34 - 36&quot; at the shoulder. Had a bear sleeping about 20&apos; behind the deck at the back of the house. Went out to talk to the guy who was checking the septic, and he told me that while he was working he turned around and there was a mama bear and her cub sitting just behind his backhoe watching him. I asked him what he did. He just jumped in the cab, and bear left. <br>I bought a Redhawk in 45 Colt to carry around because if you handload you can get 44 magnum ballistics at about 10% less pressure. If you&apos;re an experienced loader, you can build a powerful load, which I use in my lever guns.

  The best thing to do with bear spray is spray yourself in the eyes so you can&apos;t see the Bear rip off your face.

  While guiding in Alaska, I always favored carrying my revolver in a chest rig. Needless to say, &nbsp;a belt holster is worthless when wearing chest waders.

  375 H&amp;H worked on anything I hunted in the last 50 Years. So, it worked on Brown Bear in Alaska as well.

  When I’m in areas of a lot of bears I carry my S&amp;W 629 and I carry hard cast 255 SWC Keith most times ! <br>7 years ago I added the 310 gr WNFP Bullet more often !! <br>I’m impressed with the 310 gr bullet performance!! <br><br>Funny you mention the Win .348 ctg . &nbsp;Fine big game ctg , I’ve always liked that ctg on big game and the Win 71 rifle fine lever gun !!

  Thank you so much for this video and the comments near the end for hikers is very helpful. That is exactly the use case I&apos;m working on. Love to hike in bear country and the uptick of encounters has convinced it&apos;s time to prepare beyond spray. My biggest challenge is I&apos;m 55 and every bit of extra weight comes with a price. I guess it&apos;s like you said about the hunter and his .270, my 357 with the right ammunition has got to be a whole lot better than spray.

  I don&apos;t hunt anymore,but I still carry my S&amp;W Mt.44 mag, &amp; a 6&quot; 629 when I travel to the Fridge &amp; back to my recliner. Just to be safe 😮
