  &quot;In irons&quot; is pointed dead upwind. On some sailboats ( like one I used to own) this situation was impossible to get out of by using the helm alone. The boat first loses its momentum. It stops. Then it insists on pointing dead up wind. The way to get out of this is to haul the jib to one side and sheet it tight there. If the boat has only one sail, turn the helm to one side, and wait for the boat to start moving backwards. It also helps to push the end of the boom upwind on the side opposite to the direction you want the boat to turn.<br><br>&quot;Dead upwind&quot; is the boat pointed more upwind than it is capable of sailing.<br><br>&quot;Tacking&quot; or &quot;Beating&quot; is sailing as upwind as the boat is capable of sailing.<br><br>&quot;Close Reaching&quot; is sailing mostly across the wind, but a bit upwind.<br><br>&quot;Reaching&quot; is sailing across the wind.<br><br>&quot; Coarse Reaching&quot; is sailing across the wind but slightly down wind.<br><br>&quot;Running&quot; is sailing mostly downwind.<br><br>&quot;Running free&quot; is sailing nearly straight downwind.

  It&apos;s fun to watch you as someone in his mid 40s who wants to sail sometime.<br><br>But it&apos;s also if not more inspirational to hear you talk about your daughter and partner and how you&apos;re there for them. You&apos;re a great father and role model and I&apos;m really happy for all of you.

  James, that&apos;s a great example of character to own up to the gold leaf issue. &nbsp;I myself will not be asking for a replacement. &nbsp;The bit of gold that did flake off I consider as another example of good &quot;character&quot;. &nbsp;Besides, a quick coat varnish will lock that gold in for life and make it look even more nautical. &nbsp; On another note, I must say that after having read your book, that as a sailor-turned-power boater, the vast majority of your book is completely relevant to blue water power boating. &nbsp;Thumbs up!!

  I always learned (in order of closeness to the wind direction) close hauled, close reach, beam reach, broad reach, dead downwind

  I too suffer from IBS. I did process eating only beef and cleared up in five days. Them slowly added various other food until I found out what caused issues with digestion. Then I back off that food then try a teaspoon worth. The process of elimination has worked for me very well. The main thing for me is smaller portions of and more of what does not negatively &nbsp;affect ones digestion. Jim Rodgers

  Great video! I have your book, which is the best about sailing I have read. Thank you. Yes, the gold lettering in the cover is dissapering. I don’t care, it only means you are using it a lot, like I think it is meant to be.
