  James, spot on as usual. These near-new Lagoon charter specials are basically built like disposable party favors: polyester resin (the cheapest stuff on the shelf) and balsa core slapped together with production-line labor that makes IKEA furniture look hand-crafted. Minimal QA because the goal isn’t longevity — it’s cranking out volume for the charter fleets so they can be thrashed for 5–8 years and then dumped at auction when the problems start showing up.<br>Meanwhile, my 1997 Manta 40 was built in the actual Endeavour Yacht factory in Florida with proper vacuum-bagged construction, vinylester resins, solid glass below the waterline, and Nida-Core honeycomb — not the cheapest balsa lottery ticket. Stiff as a board, no bulkhead drama, and still charging hard after nearly 30 years because it was built to sail, not just to fill a slip in the Med or Caribbean for a week at a time.<br>That €100k “deal” starts looking a lot more expensive once you factor in the hidden charter tax on cheap materials and rushed build quality. Some of us prefer boats that were actually engineered instead of optimized for depreciation. Keep calling it like it is!

  James, I bought your book a couple of months ago. &nbsp;I’ve been a boater - not a sailor, a boater for over 40 years. &nbsp;Power boater, all open fisherman/center console, outboard powered boats. &nbsp;But I discovered your channel about 3 years ago and have been “hooked”. &nbsp;You are a great storyteller and speaker, in language and form that is so accessible- even for those not familiar with the topic at hand. &nbsp;Have recommended your channel to several others similarly situated- boating wise like me and all have really enjoyed your content the same. &nbsp;You should - and will soon- have a million + subscribers. &nbsp; This is amongst the best boating/sailing/life experience content on YouTube.

  Someone (I forget who atm, but I&apos;ll try to find it) had found their &apos;repaired&apos; bulkheads were still sodden and weakened. And they had had the Lagoon repair completed. It is a bandaid over a compound fracture. Parlay and a couple of other Youtuber&apos;s have made sufficient repairs. But there is far more problematic issues with that boat, as seen recently on Parlay - Fuel tanks ~ pitting, corrosion, leaking. Further bulkhead damage as well, near that same fuel tank. Also note Spear It Animal also are rebuilding another Lagoon and they found additional areas of trapped water causing rot ~ close to, but not directly connected to the original issue.

  You are absolutely right James that blue water sailing is serious business. For me fatigue is the major issue for most catamarans given two big hulls are connected by a bridge deck with unknown strength/fatigue capability (since there is no real design standard). Also many monohulls with flat bow and stern sections to create interior volume will have issues of delamination and other structural issues for serious ocean crossings, in specific when days of upwind sailing are required which happen sooner or later. Get the Hallberg, Malo, Contest, Najad, Swan, Oyster, Island Packet, Valiants of this world and you can manage bad weather with high wind and big wave conditions.

  I recently crewed on a lagoon 57 east to west across the great Australian Bight, I am a sailing virgin but this was a bucket list thing and I had a lot of fun. &nbsp;As we were getting close to Esperance the seas got higher 3-4 meters, and the wind around 37knots. &nbsp;I was &quot;sleeping&quot; while this was going on in the port forward cabin. &nbsp;I woke flying up in the air, in my dream state I was sure there was a demon at the end of my bed slamming my bunk and if I looked at it I would see laughing red beady eyes as it slammed my bed. &nbsp;🤣 BTW the hatch leaked, I got soaked. &nbsp;While it was a beautiful spacious boat that the owners wanted for diving in more protected waters, what I took away from that trip is personally I would get a boat that could handle the worst possible conditions I could encounter. We motored pretty well the whole trip.

  I totally support your comments on Lagoon Boats. They even make lousy anchors . My experience comes from 4 different friends that bought them. One of my friends sailed across the Atlantic [maiden voyage] and HAD to stop in Haiti due to it breaking up. &nbsp;He is still fighting for a warranty claim it’s been 2 years now. one of the boats rear galley door can’t slide as the tracks are so miss aligned

  The morgan 41, thats not the out island, sails lovely. Not nearly as roomy as modern, but very comfortable.

  Your advice saves lives ,especially if offshore in big squalls.<br>Buy the right boat for the sailing you want to do ,know your boats limitations
