Someone called Grace's bio-dome "Graceland" and the author liked it so much, it's now canon. Lol

It is SO cool that Rocky sees via sound (echolocation). Grace was teaching his Earth students about sound (something you can't normally see) by making it visible using the sand tray and then ends up teaching Eridian students about light, something they can't see.

21:40 … JAX: “Is this another alien species, that is trying to figure out why their sun is dying too?”
MOVIE: “Whoomp, there it is.”

I love watching Rocky calculate his astrophage fuel on his fingers and then telling Grace "I can give." This film is SO human - both Grace and Rocky.

Sad fact, in the book Rocky was waiting there alone 46 years before Grace arrived. That makes it much more understandable why he was so lonely. I don't know why they left this fact out.

One of my favorite little subtleties is the permanent scar on Grace's arm where the heat of Rocky's hand burned him while Rocky was dragging him to safety.

"Rocky watch crew die. Could not fix. Grace say Grace will die. Rocky fix. Grace go home." This wrecked me in theaters every time 😭

 "Rocky hate Mark."
What sucks even more for Mark is he'll now be remembered forever as the first human an alien hated. An eternal walk of shame. And we all know he totally deserves it.

If you've read the book, Grace's line "You gave me everything" hits really hard. Grace didn't have any family, but he also didn't have any friends or really much of a life outside of teaching. Grace found himself because of Rocky. He found the "someone to be brave for". They completed each other. That line carries such profound meaning and it only lasts a second. Also, Rocky was at Tau Ceti for 46 Earth years before Grace arrived. Rocky was there before Grace was born. 😭

One thing you may have missed: whenever we see a flashback to Earth, that's also Grace remembering it at the same time. As he regains his memories one by one, we see them play out.

Regarding how long Rocky and Adrian have been mates: they don't say it in the movie, but they do in the book, that Eridians live on average 689 years. So 186.3 years compared to their lifespan is about 27 years compared to ours. So not insignificant, but they certainly have many years ahead of them. (That said, due to relativity, by the time they got back to Erid Adrian would be older than Rocky. Adrian would be about 20-22 years older, while Rocky would only be about 8 years older.)

At 8:55 the sheep on the whiteboard was an Easter egg / nod to a teacher who was positively influenced one of the producers. That teacher wrote a book with a sheep as a protagonist.
