as a powerlifter what has worked for me and my clients is, on a "heavy day", the first working (back off) set should be around RPE 6 and last set RPE 9, distributed across 3-5 sets.

if you hit RPE 9 by set 3-4, or if you get to 5 sets at any RPE greater than the RPE of set 1, you're done and we do accessory/hypertrophy work.

it's a similar approach on "light days" but we aim for RPE 5-8 across 4-6 sets often with technique focused variations.

this seems to autoregulate the volume to manage fatigue as well as hone the movement skills

I was watching your video to learn and at about 21:30 you had a video of an older, heavier, stronger athlete....lol that was me! I am not nearly as strong as I used to be because of a patellar tendon rupture but I am definitely older (53 going on 80 most days) and heavier!! Can't seem to lose weight these days and I agree with everything you said about volume with older and heavier athletes. Can't do what I used to be able to do at all!!! My older PRs of 84 and 99 are well in the past but still hope to make 60 and 75 as I age up to the 55 age group and continue to recover from that horrific knee injury. Thanks for including the videos of me:)

Unreal how well and common sense way this is explained. Absolutely love it.

Great vid with lots of food for thought! Thanks!!!! Not that it really matters, but it's "Prilepin's Chart/Table" (not Prilepens) - get that man a spell checker - lol. BTW missing your commentary at the worlds - the other guy is ok/functional but the magic of the Seb/Max 1-2 punch makes for objectively better commentary. Cheers!

Is this voluke/intensity spectrum similar for strength, power and speed training? Think powerlifter, oly lifter, jumper, sprinter.
I mean it's obvious that lifting for example 5x5@80% would be an overkill. But that may not be true for oly lifts and definitely not for jumps, sprints.
