Nope, didn't forget, could never forget that "Balance Slays the Demon". And that ending with Barry calling out Al.

It was always such a shame Remedy couldn't strike the Alan Wake iron when it was hot, but I'm so glad it's still going. Thanks for keeping these great games alive with these great essays. Cheers.

I think the timeloop was well-implemented and balance slays the demon was amazing, it was a tiny game and will forever be remember as Alan Wake 1.5(might or might not have happened)

Always been curious about this. I remember it kind of just dropping out there with little fanfare (and for some reason, I couldn't easily access it?), and I think I'd actually forgotten about it until well after Alan Wake II had been properly announced. Got the notification for this video while stuck on a train - a purgatory all of its own

41:02 I disagree - the implication here (especially once Alan removes the darkness from her) is pretty clearly that Mr. Scratch sexually abused her. Like Alan's reaction suggests, you're not supposed to go "awooga", you're supposed to go "ew, what the fuck?" and feel bad for her. I think it works pretty well narratively, and it's not too subtle about what it's implying either. Maybe your mental framing of the game as a 2010s game coloured your perception of this moment too much to see what it was trying to say?

Also, Club Foot rocks, regardless of current context or 'age'. It's also interesting that they picked a song that was by that point almost 10 years old for that scene instead of something newer, seemingly dating the episode itself, or dating Alan for picking that song specifically. You also have to realise Alan Wake wrote all this, so, y'know, there's that to take into account, too. And the lyrics could be interpreted to relate to his situation within AWAN, or the dark place in general, just like the Old Gods' songs, or AW1's chapter end music.

On a personal note, I actually prefer this style of music choice over AW2's commissioned music. Here, you have to interpret why the creators picked a given song over any other, how the lyrics relate to the story, etc. With AW2 it's kind of in your face, there's no interpretation required at all, which I think makes it a bit lesser by comparison.
