  Hal figured out Noah is a manhunter, and the sheriff killed Hal, to protect Noah. Hal didnt give her a choice, and just let her kill him rather then let go.

  If Noah is a Man-hunter. I can see Hal creating a clone to prove to Kerry that Noah will act as a Man-hunter first and a Human second. Zoe had to kill Abin Sur not because she wanted too, but because it was what the Guardians made her to be.

  Theory: Hal realized Noah is a manhunter when Noah healed him from the fire. That led to his death.

  Noah killed Hal either for revenge for Zoe or for taking his father's place with Kerry. Kerry either saw or figured out it was Noah and she is covering for her son to protect him. The ironic part is that Hal didn't kill Zoe, John did. Noah has no way to know that. Hal told John in the diner that he took all the blame, so the town thinks Hal killed Zoe their benefactor.

  so everyone is finally coming round to my thinking eh? you can all check out my comments on various video's I've said it from the first episode Kerry did it, Hal simply wouldn't have let anyone else get that close, but I admit the thought of Hal killing himself threw me.

The look on his face is one of acceptance and would explain her grief and asking John for pre-forgiveness the moment she had a chance to tell the first person who might understand she had no choice.
