I feel like Hal wanted John to find a reason to WANT the ring himself. Because his entire story he’s been doing what someone else wants him to do. Now hal is setting him up on a path to become a green lantern on his own terms. Not the guardians and not his moms doing either

Think about it: they didn't name the show Lanterns for a reason. Everything is pointing straight toward the Green Lantern: Earth One comic run. In that universe, yellow rings aren't inherently evil—they're just used differently, and John becomes a Yellow Lantern to fight a rogue Guardian.

This series, can’t end with Hal not being a lantern. We didn’t get to see Jordan cook with that ring. He’s one of the best lanterns, he can’t die at the beginning of this series. We NEED more of this Hal Jordan.
