Also recycled food waste, which we have tons of on this country is another way to extract potassium as well as other fertilizer components, and this can be a relatively low cost method . We should be doing this anyway. The Japanese have lovely food waste collection machines in school and other cafeteria locations.

It's possible that Canada does not want to weaponize the global food supply by withholding potash. Restricting potash exports directly hurts working farmers and agricultural producers who rely on Canadian potash. Downstream, all Americans who buy food would be severely impacted.

Resources are the new currency, no matter which way to spin it. This is merely because the world needs more and more .... purely structural. You can go get them somewhere else. We will sit on it and unmoved!

Well. Potash is potassium. Potassium can be obtained from seawater. Indeed, desalination waste water is full of it...if we set up desalination plants to supplemen out water starved areas, then harvesting potassium is almost free. And it lowers the cost of desalination. We should be doing that anyway. New jobs, new investments.
