  This Spitfire belonged to NZ pilot Alan Deere, who was an inspiration behind Tom Hardy’s character in Christopher Nolan&apos;s Dunkirk. Fellow pilots joked he had “nine lives” because of the number of close calls he survived. Deere lost Kiwi I, II, and III, eventually considering it a bad omen to keep painting the New Zealand flightless bird on his aircraft. He also believed the Dixon round&apos;s (mentioned in this video) main benefit was that it flashed on impact, letting the pilot know when their rounds were on target.<br><br>If you’re interested, he wrote a fantastic memoir called Nine Lives.

  This is unbelievable. &nbsp;Without a doubt, the most amazing tour of the Spitfire I have ever seen. &nbsp;This goes to show that quality beats quantity any day of the week. &nbsp;Inside and out, and even the pilots&apos; opinions of the aircraft, were just brilliantly done. &nbsp;Amazing work by all involved, including the Narrator, top notch. 👍👍

  Mon Dieu que j&apos;aime cet avion. Je suis originaire d&apos;un petit village de la côte d&apos;Opale, dans le Pas-de-Calais... Un jour, quand j&apos;étais gosse et déjà passionné par l&apos;aviation et ( j&apos;ignore pourquoi) par le Spitfire en particulier, j&apos;ai eu la chance d&apos;en voir un survolé mon village à plusieurs reprises. J&apos;ai donc couru dans la prairie qui surplombe la vallée et c&apos;est là que je l&apos;ai aperçu à nouveau, j&apos;ai fait des grands signes au pilote et il a m&apos;a répondu en faisant battre ses ailes. Je devais avoir 6 ou 7 ans. En fait, une compagnie de cinéma Britannique tournait un film non-loin de chez moi.<br>Inoubliable ! Ça a renforcé ma passion, encore plus. 🙏🏻<br>Merci à vous pour cette vidéo que les pilotes et mécaniciens de l&apos;époque auraient certainement adoré. <br>Julien 🙏🏻🇲🇫

  Excellent videos (all of them by Blue Paw). So glad you added this airplane to your videos. Pilot for over 50 years and several months ago while in the UK I got to fly a 1943 Spitfire Mark 9 (2-seat conversion) with the Merlin 66 engine. The Spitfire I flew was MJ627 and was involved with the Market Garden battle where it shot down a BF-109. This same airplane had engine failure 4 months before my flight and made a successful belly landing and was repaired in time for my flight. It was one of three engine failures and belly landings made since it was built in 1943. Everything in this video matches my experience. The cockpit was extremely tight, and my shoulders touched both sides. The control stick was hinged in the middle on purpose because there was not enough room between my legs to have a full stick hinged at the floor like USA fighters. Many other details in the video explained things I did not know. Thanks again.
