Thank you so much for supporting my podcast. I hope it helps in your journey to self understanding. I only ask one tiny favour: please click the 'Like' button on this video, and please Subscribe to the channel. Both gestures are free and are the single biggest thing you can do to help me carry on my mission: to remind you that you're not broken, just different and you have always been enough. Alex 💚

I explained it to my auntie this way: I know it seems like I'm talking about autism and ADHD a lot, and it might even be a little tedious to listen to, but from my perspective, there was something wrong my whole life, some way I couldn't put my finger on in which I didn't fit with society, and finding out that I'm autistic and have ADHD answers so many questions and puts things I didn't understand throughout my life into crystal clear focus. It's like the world's most cathartic 'aha!' moment.

Just got my ADHD diagnosis age 39... I already have autism. When I came from my assessment I thought ok I'll tell my husband. He said nothing didn't even ask if I had my results. Told my mum on a txt her response was well yes as time goes on it is more obvious. That's her way of kind of feeling guilty that she didn't know when I was a child and that it makes more sense now. For me it's all more than this.... It explains my whole life, my every experience, education, career, friendships, relationships. I don't really have anyone who can understand this so I came here where people I know just get it. Keep fighting for your late diagnosis it is not a trend it's real!!!

No matter how many times you say it, it always makes my eyes water "you're not broken, and you've always been enough" ❤

I'm AuDHD. Diagnosed at 61 and 65. I'd like to say both Pete and Alex you are lovely human beings. I really appreciate all the effort you both put into educating, sharing and supporting. Neither of you should have anxiety about saying the wrong thing. You are both helping do many people. You have nothing to apologise for or feel bad about.

Thanks for all the coverage you’ve been giving AuDHD lately. There really isn’t too much of it out there. It’s nice to not feel so alone with this “beast.” 💜💚

My father took his life at 29, he was Neurodivergent and tormented. I am 58 years old and got a late diagnosised at 47. Its been a very long daunting journey.

This is the most relatable discussion about my autism and ADHD I've heard. Two parts of my brain competing, sometimes collaborating, frequently at odds.

I‘m 34 years old and always wondered why everyone got their shit together but I couldn’t live a normal life.
At work I‘m good but at home is chaos.
50 unopened letters, I wash nearly every washing machine load 2 times, everywhere half done work, I sozialise for two hours and in a sudden I’m at home exhausted.
Every relationship when I said I need time alone, I need to recharge it was always seen like an insult.
I switched job professions 3 times, went to 2 different universities but dropped out cause I couldn’t do homework’s even tho I liked the subjects.

Now after seeing a psychiatrists who told me I should check in at a professional to see if I’m A. Autistic B. Adhd‘er and C. Gifted
I’m in the process of getting diagnosis.
The results are mind blowing to me.
Skyrocketing ADXS results + both doctors told me they’re seeing a very high masking autistic in me.

I don’t know what the future hold for me but now, for the first time, I have the feeling that I have the right tools to get somewhere in life.

The statement that got me was. “I felt like I never knew what was going on.” I’m 39 and I have never heard it put that way before. Incredibly accurate.

Society needs to be more aware, in particular the NHS. Before diagnosis, I was in long term burnout, awful survival mode. I didn’t understand it was this. I self referred for talking therapy. Was told I need to keep going to places (shops, work etc.) I felt anxious in to rewire my brain into believing it’s safe. So I forced myself to go to cafés, shops etc., when all I needed was rest because I’m AuDHD and my brain can’t be rewired. Not one health professional considered I could be neurodivergent and this lack of awareness extended my burnout and caused more pain. When I requested an assessment, I had to fight to be believed by the GP and I’m glad I dug my heels in. Late Diagnosis has changed my life for the better and I only sought it because of people like Alex advocating for change and awareness.

The more I listen, the more I just realised.....I had never been able to fathom the kind of relaxed existence a neurotypical person can lead. The anxiety, the cautious performance of social behavior, the rumination and self blame over failure of performance in proper social conduct and the despair at tying everything I can and still not reaching the mark of normalcy which I cannot see......I had been internalizing that for so long I had forgotten that was not simply a universal human experience.
