Little Miss Sunshine! It’s an incredible movie with Tony Collette and Steve Carell

The conversation where mum mention to win the lottery was never intended as a joke or lie (as other reactors think). They both speak of their dreams, where Cole's dream is to be included and feel normal and mum's dream is of a lighter economic burden and time for other things. It’s a good bonding exersice and it's very mindfull of her character to do so. Imagine you have a shy, closed down child and being able to connect with him with this technique!
Also, Malcolm needed to do two things. Only when he did one of them, was he able to see the world as it was.

When I first learned (well after seeing this movie) that Toni Collette was Australian, it blew my mind. Her American accent is spot on.

It took me a few rewatch to realize that Cole's grandmother was never able to pass over until Cole passed on the message to his mom. But Cole wasn't ready to confide in his mom.
He also knew that by telling Malcolm how to speak to his wife, he would give him the power to pass to the other side.

33:35 I like how they made the mom that poisoned the littler girl the only one wearing red in this scene
