Sunny, humanity made terminator like ai robots that went rogue and caused all sorts of hell, that was the reasoning for the AI ban.

Nurgle's an extortionist. He plagues people and then basically says "pray to me and I'll make you stop hurting."

On the idea of making an Ork army with one human...
There's an entire tribe of orks that adopted human "taktiks" after experiencing the might of the Astra Militarum, and at least one warband of them that literally dress up in immitations of the Imperial Guard uniforms.
You could lean into that.

Yeah, Necron weapons are crazy.

The Mechanicus have many, many planets. During the Age of Strife, before the Emperor united Terra, warp storms made interstellar travel impossible for MOST of humanity. But the Mechanicus have the greatest understanding of technology out of all the human sub factions, so they were able to utilize small breaks in the storms to travel and establish multiple forge worlds (whole world covered by factories) before the Emperor established contact with them to form a treaty. The Ad Mech are basically an empire in their own right within the Imperium itself.

My favorite example of the Ork's "power of belief" is how colors work. Red is faster, so an ork vehicle painted red literally is just faster. Blue is lucky. But purple? Purple is the sneaky color. Because have you ever seen a purple Ork?

The reason I like it so much though is because I can't find a single official source *anywhere* that states purple is the sneaky color.

The Orks believed it so hard it became true from a metanarrative perspective and I can't help but giggle.

If you're interested, there's a youtube series called the true size of a tyranid invasion. There are currently 5 episodes and they seem to release a new one every 3-4 months

I'm just imagining some cryptek with some modicum of will petitioning the silent king, "Are you sure Sire? Its just used to view the galaxy in real time." Nervous sweatcrodermis
"sure I guess that ones fine" lol

Imperial Guard: it's millions to one odds a guardsman will kill, say, a custodian, or something on that scale of tactical value.

But it's not zero, and as an IG general, you've got 13 billion rolls on that dice, and statistically, you can expect to literally decimate a host of 10k, and cause irreparable damage to the enemy. Guardsmen grow back in 20 years, replaceable. Hell, dig in hard enough and your army might start replenishing itself and calling itself "Cadia 2". Space Marines, necrons, elder, every loss is a massive investment destroyed, even on a galactic scale.

Eighteen Hours probably sums it up best from the low level perspective. An entire shipment of guardsmen is a rounding error.

There was an encounter between current Imperium and a time-traveling space ship from the Dark Age of technology called the Sprit of Eternity. That ship was lost while traveling in the Warp, flung through time and reemerged in 40k. It's crew and captain were killed by the current superstitious 40k humans after they tried to communicate, and the ship's AI witnessed all of that. It fled in horror, and later stuck with a bunch of other lost space ship debris called Spacehulks. Over time it grew hatred for humanity and what they have become.
Then later on some space marines and tech priest came across it, and were chased off by the ship. But thanks to the Imperials that it was able to get unstuck from that Spacehulk debris and fled, never to be seen again.

My theory is that ship was able to return to the past (the Golden Age of technology), warned it's fellow AIs of what humanity will become, and that's what caused the massive AI uprising that kickstarted the massive civil war the Imperium had. Everything went full circle.
