  What really stayed with me was how incredibly difficult her journey must have been. She wasn’t only trying to survive the trauma of being sexually abused as a child; she was also trying to heal within a cultural environment where family honour, shame and silence could carry so much weight for her as an Indian woman.<br><br>She was made to feel ashamed for something that was never her fault, while the person who abused her was protected. Then, when she turned to alcohol and acted out sexually as a way of coping with the pain she was carrying, the focus was still on protecting the family’s reputation rather than understanding what she was going through.<br><br>To overcome all of that — the abuse, the shame, the silence, the expectations placed on her, and the feeling that she had to protect everyone else’s honour while carrying her own pain — must have taken an incredible amount of courage. Her story is a powerful reminder of how difficult it can be to break generational cycles of trauma, especially when bravely speaking &nbsp;up her truth &nbsp;means challenging &nbsp;family and cultural expectations.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqEf_7KCgWI&amp;t=1874">31:14</a> - THIS IS IT! Families like this are the reason healing is harder for such victims. These communities are unfortunately highly toxic and generally unhealthy physically, &nbsp;spiritually and emotionally. But they would rather ‘save face’ than build brighter, healthier futures. <br>The ironic thing is, saving face is usually from what? Either being disowned (quite frankly, the people doing the disowning are not really the people one should want in their lives anyway) and GOSSIP! These communities are so adept and busy gossiping!! <br>There is such an obsession and a normality constantly talking about others than it leads to an inability to do any self improvement work. <br>Many people from these communities (as is obvious from this interview) cannot live life freely!

  I know the family tried covering it from the wider community to protect their honour, but how did the allow him to continue being part of their lives. &nbsp;It&apos;s like telling him what he did was ok. How did they face him, and talk to him know what he was doing to a child? They clearly could not have been as disgusted and sickened by it. I don&apos;t understand how the biggest crime against a child was excused. <br><br>I also don&apos;t get knowing everyone knew what he did, how did he himself walk around without shame?! You would think he would have gone into hiding and never shown himself to his family again.
