Actually you need a shot of cool air mixing around the warm Updraft we now have the enhanced fujita scale we don't use the old f-scale anymore the tornadoes that we have here in the states have six categories from 0 all the way up to 5 warm moist air from the Gulf of America cool dry air from the Canadian Rockies and warm dry air from the southwestern United States when when air masses collide it can also spark ingredients for super cells development the US well over 1500 tornadoes per year

When the rotating updraft when the air gets stretched it goes from a horizontal roll to vertical column of air and also they can have wind speeds more than 200 miles an hour
