  If anyone wonders why they can’t access the turbine room when the reactor is running (I did), it’s because it is a BWR which uses steam from the reactor core directly on the turbine. High energy neutrons in the core converts the oxygen (O16) in the water molecules to Nitrogen 16 which is highly unstable and emits gamma rays. So the turbine room would be full of gamma rays during operation. <br>N16 has a half life of only 7 seconds, so just minutes after stopping the steam (during service outage), the gamma radiation in the turbine room drops to zero. <br>PWR reactors doesn’t use steam from the primary loop to run the turbine, but from a secondary loop that is heated by the primary loop. So steam from the secondary loop running the turbine doesn’t contain N16.

  I love how everyone at this plant looks like regular country folk definitely from Alabama, you&apos;d see raising a barn, building a ratrod or mega truck, playing in a band, hanging out on the front porch, or farming away, but they&apos;re all incredibly educated, serious, intelligent nuclear specialists, experts, and scientists. Its soo friggin cool to see!

  its the most awesome and brilliant PR letting a camera do a FULL walk around on a fully functional nuclear reactor, we need more people to learn and know how good and safe it is, nuclear its the next big step so we can ditch fossil fuel for comercial energy generation

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vncf70UBsr4&amp;t=9820">2:43:40</a> In the nuclear navy, we always said &quot;Dilution is the solution to pollution.&quot; In this case, disassembly (diluting or spreading out the camera) is the solution to pollution (contamination above the limits). &nbsp;I use this in my daily life when wiping things down. &nbsp;My wife knows the phrase by heart now, too. :D
