  Fun fact; the Pharaoh actually used exactly 41 cards in his second duel with Rafael, which is significant as this suggests that he&apos;d gone through his entire 40 card deck, plus The Claw of Hermos he added to it before the Duel. Assuming that Battle City rules still apply and his normal deck was only 40 cards, that means that Yami was actually about to deck out on the next turn if Rafael didn&apos;t use Soul Charge.<br><br>EDIT: Yami&apos;s cards are as follows. His opening hand is Queen&apos;s Knight, King&apos;s Knight, Brave Attack, Five Star Twilight, Rope of Life, and Chain Destriction. That&apos;s 6 cards.<br><br>He draws Monster Reborn and summons King&apos;s Knight, which Special Summons Jack&apos;s Knight from his deck. He&apos;s used 8 cards from his deck.<br><br>Yami draws MST and activates Five Star Twilight, which lets him Special Summon the 5 Kuriboh brothers from his deck. He then tributes them to Special Summon Kuribabylon from his deck. Now he&apos;s used 15 cards.<br><br>The Pharaoh draws Dark Magic Curtain, sacrifices Kuribabylon to get the Kuriboh brothers back from his GY, and then tributes them to Special Summon Kuribandit from his deck. He then uses Dark Magic Curtain to Special Summon Dark Magician from his deck too. That&apos;s another 3 cards from his deck, so he&apos;s used 18 cards now.<br><br>Kuribandit tributes itself to let Yami draw 5 cards and discard all monsters, so now he&apos;s up to 23 cards used from his deck.<br><br>Yami draws Big Shield Gardna, which brings the total of cards from his deck up to 24.<br><br>He draws Graceful Charity, which lets him draw another 3 cards from his deck and discard 2. That&apos;s 28 cards from his deck gone.<br><br>Yami topdecks Card of Sanctity (ofc), so he draws 5 cards. That&apos;s 34 cards he&apos;s used.<br><br>Next turn he draws Underworld Circle, which would also banish any remaining monsters in his deck, though I don&apos;t believe there are any left. Now the Pharaoh is up to 35 cards from his deck that he&apos;s gone through.<br><br>The Pharaoh draws Altar of Restoration, which causes him to banish the top 2 cards of his deck to get back Timaeus from his GY. That&apos;s another 3 cards from his deck, meaning that he&apos;s used 38 cards so far.<br><br>Yami draws Pot of Greed, which lets him draw 2 more cards, those being The Claw of Hermos and Spider Web. That&apos;s 41 cards exactly, meaning that again, unless he&apos;s no longer using a 40 card deck after Battle City, the Pharaoh was about to deck out if Rafael didn&apos;t willingly throw the Duel to bring back his Guardians.<br><br>I think there&apos;s something poetic about the idea that Rafael could have won his second Duel with the Pharaoh just by passing his turn and letting Yami deck out, but instead willingly letting himself lose to bring back his Guardians from the GY and atone for his wrongdoings.

  once again, the most magical part of this arc isn&apos;t the dragons or the orichalcos, it&apos;s the fact every villain pulls the seal in their opening hand

  I like to think that the reason characters like Alister make so many misplays is because they&apos;re actually just kind of stupid. So an explanation for why Alister didn&apos;t go for the win in his first duel with Kaiba when he had lethal was because he didn&apos;t realize he had it.

  You know, watching this again - Joey&apos;s compensation mediation against Mai isn&apos;t just a stalling tactic. Her earliest appearance had her using &quot;aroma tactics&quot; to tell what her cards were without looking. So to have Joey stall via picking out his card from among hers might be a bit of a callback.
